No Cuts Policy For travel soccer

Lenox Youth FC has a NO CUTS policy and welcomes players of any ability willing to make the commitment to the travel soccer program. To support this no cuts policy, Lenox Youth FC has defined two types of roster spots, playing roster and training roster.

A playing roster are players on a MYSA approved roster eligible to play in competitive, BCYSL matches. A training roster are for players who were not awarded a playing roster spot, and are designated as practice / training players.

A training roster should be a rare exception as in most cases players should be on the playing roster. A training roster will apply only in special circumstances such as over-subscription to a team, an age ineligible player playing down to be with his/her peers, late sign-ups or players who are considered not ready for the physical demands of travel soccer. Players on a training roster are expected to practice with the team, participate in all professional training sessions and be available if a player on the playing roster is not available to play in a match or quits the team.

In some cases, there may be enough players for two or more teams, but only one coach for one team is available. Lenox Youth FC will field a training team only if there are parent volunteers to help in practice with the coach, or what is better, for the parent volunteer to coach a second team. (Please see the section for Coach development policy.) Lenox Youth FC will make a best faith effort to find qualified coaches, but ultimately the responsibility rests with parents in an age group to step forward when needed. Lenox Youth FC will provide this parent with the tools to be an effective coach.

A - B Team Policy.

In spring of 2008, a survey was sent out to parents asking for guidance on fielding A & B teams. The soccer board has adopted policy to reflect the majority opinion of parents to support A & B roster formation as described.

For U12 and U14 age groups, if there are enough players for two teams at minimum roster limits defined by the board, the club will field A & B teams. A roster sport award to the "A" team is merit based after a independent player evaluation (no team coaches or parents) and the discretion of the soccer board.

For U10 age groups, the club will continue with forming mixed teams where talent is distributed equally.

Late Sign-Up policy

A player who wants to play travel soccer and who has missed the sign-up period may still sign-up to play with the travel team; however the player is ineligble to participate in any tryouts and is automatically placed on the training roster. The player may be moved to the playing roster if the team is not oversubscribed at the discretion of the coach and subject to approval by the LYFC board.

Playing Up / Playing down  Policy

Lenox Youth FC follows the guidelines for playing up defined by BCYSL and MYSA. If the reasons why a player playing up no longer apply, the player will be reassigned to the team the player normally would play on.

In some cases, a player may want to play down. While BCYSL does not allow a player to player down, in some cases an exception can be made in the fall season. In the spring season because of MTOC player eligibility guidelines, no player can play down.

Coaching & New COACH DEVELOPMENT Policy

Lenox Youth FC depends almost entirely on parent coaches and constantly seeks to develop new coaches. Any parent interested in coaching is welcome to apply for a coaching or assistant coaching position. Lenox Youth FC will sponsor parents who want to be travel coaches for appropriate MYSA certification and make available qualified coaches and trainers to educate these parents.

Potential coaches please note that Lenox Youth FC uses professional trainers during the season to conduct one practice during the week. These professional trainers are a wonderful resource to give you additional tools and guidance for practices and game day tactics and strategy. You will still be required to run one practice and are responsible for all match decisions. We have found that professional trainers make it a lot easier for the new parent coach to be effective as they will guide you through best practices while working with your team giving you "on-the-job" training.

Travel coaches are determined from a selection committee composed of Lenox Youth FC board members. Preference is given to coaches who have MYSA Coaching Certifications or equivalent education, former players who know the game and experienced youth coaches. Coaches are evaluated at the end of the season by the parents and players.

Please note that fielding a team is based on the availability of a coach. If there is no parent willing to coach that age group and no alternative coach is found by the board, Lenox Youth FC may not be able to field a team in that age group. Ultimately, parents have responsibility to step up and coach when needed.
